چکیده

The involvement of ionic channel/s in signal transduction and the amplification of phytohormones induced impact on the processes leading to seed germination provoked us to undertake the present study. Seeds of Cicer arietinum (L.) cv. Avarodhi were soaked in the aqueous solutions of 28homobrassinolide (HBR) and/or K+, for a limited period, and subsequently transferred to distilled water, for the rest of the germination period. The seeds were sampled 24, 36 and 48 hours after soaking and were analyzed for relative water content, activity of nitrate reductase and for the contents of nitrate and total protein, as well. HBR treatment caused highest values of all the characteristics, except the nitrate content. Among the treatments, HBR (10-8M), alone or in combination with potassium (12 μM), proved as best in activating the observed characteristics.

Purification of trypsin inhibitor from seeds of Cicer arietinum (L.) and its insecticidal potential against Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner)

INTRODUCTION Cicer arietinum is an important self-pollinated diploid crop 2n=2x=16 with genome sized approximately 931 Mbp (Arumuganathan and Earle 1991). India is the largest producer of chickpea, contributing with about 66% of the total global production, followed by Turkey, Pakistan and Mexico (Thangwana and Ogola 2012). It is a major source of protein (12.4-31.5%), energy, fiber, vitamins, ...

Response of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) to terminal drought: leaf stomatal conductance, pod abscisic acid concentration, and seed set

Flower and pod production and seed set of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) are sensitive to drought stress. A 2-fold range in seed yield was found among a large number of chickpea genotypes grown at three dryland field sites in south-western Australia. Leaf water potential, photosynthetic characteristics, and reproductive development of two chickpea genotypes with contrasting yields in the field w...

Allelopathic Activity of Coffee Against Cicer arietinum and Triticum aestivum

The present study aimed the evaluation of allelopathic effect of aqueous extract of coffee (Coffea arabica) against germination and radicle growth of Cicer arietinum and Triticum aestivum seeds. The extract at different concentrations was incubated in controlled conditions with the surface sterilized seeds of C. arietinum and T. aestivum and observed periodically for seed germination and radicl...

Ethylene Production and 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-Carboxylic Acid Conjugation in Thermoinhibited Cicer arietinum L. Seeds.

The effect of supraoptimal temperatures (30 degrees C, 35 degrees C) on germination and ethylene production of Cicer arietinum (chick-pea) seeds was measured. Compared with a 25 degrees C control, these temperatures inhibited both germination and ethylene production. The effect of supraoptimal temperatures could be alleviated by treating the seeds with ethylene. It was concluded that one effect...
